Planetary Boundaries Framework Pt. 1 - My Notes

          This week all of the learning became clear. The previous weeks had seemed like a smattering of information about the Earth and it's systems, but I really was not sure how it all connected to the course topic of sustainability. However, now everything makes sense. Each topic in the previous week was a part of setting up the foundation with which understanding planetary boundaries lies. Now that I understand this concept, and am totally fascinated by it by the way, the learning of sustainability is straightforward. We establish the boundaries for the climate systems, so we know exactly how many trees we can cut down or how much carbon dioxide we can emit before the Earth is pushed outside the Holocene like state we're in right now. I loved this week, and I cannot wait to learn more about each of the Earth systems that make up the nine boundaries. 
          My questions for this week are focused on understanding the many complex graphics displayed in the lectures. I need to spend more time investigating them in order to really glean all of their meaning. I would like to use them in my presentation as they are pivotal parts of the learning, but first I must fully understand them.

Planetary Boundaries and Global Equity               Planetary boundaries are important because they create the ceiling, or the maximum resilience, of Earth system processes. However, none of the planetary boundaries would ever be reached if not for human action. It is time to put humanity back into the equation, and find solutions for a sustainable future within the limitations and opportunities of modern society.              It is time to couple biophysical analysis of Earth system science with human dimensions. Planetary Boundaries Framework - Notes Lecture 1 – Aerosol Loading – Dr. Sarah Cornell  - Aerosol is a rather technical term to describe the phenomenon of liquid droplets or particles, very small particles that are held suspended in the atmosphere. -T hey can both absorb and reflect light, so they're important in Earth's heat balance, and in the climate system. They provide condensation nucleus points; water condenses on aerosol particles and affects where clouds are formed and where rainfall happens. And they also provide microsurfaces for chemical reactions in the atmosphere. So, they influence atmospheric chemistry.
